Art from around the world and around the corner

Helen Zarin

Grew up in Shiraz, Iran, and began to paint pictures at the age of five. After high school she enrolled in the Art and Culture Society, a national organization for gifted Persian artists. Here she refined her skills in painting and pastels and earned a number of national awards. Conditions in her native country compelled Helen to turn elsewhere for the creative nourishment an artist needs. "Hard work and God-given talent are not enough for an artist to progress and blossom," she remarks. "Creative freedom in the right atmosphere is essential." In her search for this creative atmosphere, Helen traveled in Europe and then came to the United States. She now resides in the Atlanta area
